I'd suggest bringing spares though.*I have read some criticism about docking. It seem like this is the norm lately. My Zune 8GB docks easily and securelyCons:*There is an antenna cord in the back. Sometime, but not always, if you dock the Zune and turn it on, then turn on the system, no sound comes out, you have to re-dock the Zune. It really designed for those occasions when you want very high volume and aren't that concerned about sound quality.I was looking for a small system that was fairly compact, ran on batteries or AC, would control a Zune, was priced under $100, and had reasonable sound quality. This is my second Zune speaker system. I had purchased the one by Kicker. It's not going to sound as good to a full stereo system, but given its small size, it sounds very good.
I realize that it's not going to run all day on 3 AAs but I have gotten several hours usage out of a set - long enough for a picnic or other outdoor activity. They are putting less of the controls on the systems themselves and making you use the remote.*Sometime is it finicky about what order you do things. You always have this wire, several feet long dangling from the back. Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase given the sound quality, features, and reasonable price. I've consider just cutting it off and using the radio in the Zune.*Several of the controls, such as bass boost are only available on the remote. *In addition to Zune it also has an aux input for other devices and an FM radio.*It's not flashy but it has a nice simple look. You can roll it up but it's still a nuisance. While the Kicker is an OK unit if you want to blast rock or hip-hop.
Unlike most portable stereos I have used it is not detachable. I wish more portable systems had this.*So far I have gotten reasonable usage out of the 3 AA batteries. This one fit the bill.Pros:*Sound quality at reasonable volumes, even for acoustic music and vocals is very good. The controls are well laid out.*There is a nice holder for the remote control so that you can stow it away when you are not using it.
after looking at and listening to this player at an electronics store I ordered it from Amazon.(saved about $40.00) and it sounds great.got it for camping and boating and it's the ticket for us.got an extra years warrenty on it in the box.also very good service from Amazon.Johnny
Have not used it for a long period of time with batteries yet, but I haven't had too. I was really surprised at the quality of the sound that came out of the speakers. I used it a cookout and everyone could not believe that this little thing gave off such a good sound.
The sound quality of these speakers is awsome.Low volume or high there is no distortion.Controls and remote are easy to use.Battery charging is super fast and very convenient for me as I use this at work. The only reason for four stars is that the connection between zune and speakers is a bit touchy and sometimes several tries and much wiggling is called for.Once it connects it's good as gold,it's only the initial connect that needs improvement.Even at 4 stars it,s worth every penny.
(and no, this isn't user inability rather a design issue with the product).too bad because its a good concept. Do yourself a favor and look at Bose or similar for better functionality. This speaker system (while it has interchangeable docs for various sized iPods and MP3's) doesn't dock well with any system. The connections are shotty at best and while the sound is great from the speakers - it is a nightmare to use this dock and get your system seated properly (used it with a Nano, standard iPOD, and Zune and had issues with all three).
